So check this out! Who loves a pseudomorph? This one has green pyromorphite barrels & sprays, & it also has the Plumbogummite that is pseudomorphed into, which is the pale blue coating over the pyromorphite. Before this find was discovered in a pocket in Southern China in 2015 all plumbogummite was the darker blue botryoidal variety that forms as a thin coating. You may be familiar with that type. This pocket changed everything. It was the first time this type was found. The science stuff…Plumbogummite is a rare secondary lead phosphate mineral, belonging to the alunite supergroup of minerals, crandallite subgroup. Named in 1819 by François Pierre Nicolas Gillet de Laumont from the Latin “plumbum” for lead, & “gummi” for gum, in allusion to its lead content & appearance at times as drops or coatings of gum. Let’s pronounce it… “plumbo” (rhymes with Dumbo) + “gum” (as in bubble) + “mite” (as in with all your) It’s heavy. Its is a lead based mineral after all. It’s impossible to find perfect pieces of this, just FYI, & closer to perfect larger specimens sell for thousands. I’ve been looking for years for good ones, & I feel like these are great examples. I’m so excited to have them. I think they are really cool. I hope you do, too. This one is like a plate of pyromorphite with some pseudomorphing happening across the tops & tips, like you can see the process almost. Fun piece!
