You don’t see many of these around any more. This is a Work Organizer Specialty Co. of Detroit Work Organizer Ledger in Brown Spanish Leather Substitute & Gray Antique Catalog Paper Style 632. According to my research, this ledger was copyrighted in 1923. The ledger itself appears to have been used by a building company well into the 1950s as it contained a July 31, 1958 clipped our article with current postage prices from the Birmingham Michigan Eccentric. ( See picture in photo 5 collage) This is a perfect conversation piece that could be hung on a business wall. This provides a glimpse into history on how businesses tried to keep organized back in the day well before the computer took over that function. This ledger has 10 sections. Each section has a tutorial on how to use the organizer or how to organize different aspects of a business. These are the topics of each section: Principles of Organizing Desk Work How to Organize Current Work How to Organize Ideas to Be Developed How to Organize Data at the Desk How to Organize Problems to Be Solved How to Organize Rules, Policies, & Standard Practices How to Organize Stationery How to Label & Relabeled the Work Organizer The Work Organizer Is Made in Grades to Fit Any Need According to the information on the last page of the ledger this is style number 632. The high end styles were available in leather but this was made of Brown Spanish Leather Substitute & Gray Antique Catalog Paper. Dimensions: Length: 10 inches Height: 19 inches Width: .25 inch Condition: This ledger is in very good used condition. It has no rips, tears or holes. The pages turn as intended. It is structurally sound. Although it doesn’t show much sign of use it was clearly used because the label holders have labels in them from the original business user. Please see photos for best depiction of condition of this ledger. Estimated age. It is our opinion this organizer was manufactured anytime between 1917 & 1950. The organizer itself does not have a date stamp. We did some research on the Work Organizer Specialty Co. of Detroit & found their products described as early as 1917 in a volume from & industry trade magazine called ‘ The American Stationer & Office Outfitter’ . The copyright date for the ‘Work Organizer’ is 1923.There was also a clue from a newspaper clipping we found inside from the ‘Birmingham Michigan Eccentric’ dated July 31, 1958 that had ‘new mail rates ‘ ( first class went from 3 cents to 4 cents) This indicates it was used in the 1950s. Please visit our shop & check out the professional gear & briefcases available. We have plenty of Coach products, including some rare NYC Coach bags from the 1970’s.
