Beautiful mid-century modern orange handmade fat-lava pottery ashtray by Jaap Ravelli in excellent condition. Jaap Ravelli (1916-2011) was a Dutch ceramist known for his distinctive mid-century pottery. He gained popularity for his studio’s work in the 1950s & 1960s, producing modern, minimalist ceramics often characterized by matte glazes & organic shapes. Ravelli’s designs typically feature simple, clean lines & are influenced by Scandinavian design trends of the period, but with a unique Dutch twist. His pieces, mostly vases, bowls, & plates, often feature muted tones like browns, whites, & grays, with occasional bold use of color. Ravelli operated his own pottery studio, Ravelli Keramiek, which he founded in 1944 & ran for several decades. Though it closed in the 1970s, his work remains highly regarded in the world of ceramics & vintage design.
