WELCOME! Fine Antique Sterling Silver American Hallmarked Compact Case! Exquisite Bright Cut/Chased/Engraved on all sides with a blank oval for a monogram. Push button top & hinged bottom work well & are secure. Acanthus Leaves & and a Flower Decor. Gold Wash interior. Inside rim near the opening is marked ‘STERLING’ with a ‘C inside an arrow’ makers mark. The maker is either Carter, Howe & Co. or Carter, Gough & Co., Newark, New Jersey circa 1841-1920. Both have the same makers mark. Oval hinged compartment features a lovely inset light amethyst cabochon opening knob. There are rub marks & some loss to the gold wash as well as some small dents. Overall Good Antique condition with issues as notes & shown. Measures approx. 2 1/2″ including push button x 1 5/8″ x 3/8″. Nice heavy feel.
