In this listing we are very pleased to offer a complete & in wonderful condition set of a mustard pot, salt shaker & pepper shaker designed & made by Verceram France. This is visually stunning & very pretty. The colors are cream white & lipstick red with black dots (moucheté as it was called in French). The colors fuse together halfway the individual items noting that the colored sides also differ slightly in relief. Lastly also note that the pepper shaker has a red top & the salt shaker has a white top. This must not have been easy to make & a lot of attention has been put into making these. The set is in its original brass carrying rack. The only downside is that we bought the set without the original lid for the mustard pot. We have tailor-ordered a brand new cork stopper/lid that we believe fits perfect with the style. As the set is very rare we have no idea how the original lid looks like. This is a dream-like set for a 1950s diner/French Riviera style interior. The mustard pot is marked on the bottom side with the Vercreram logo, made in France & the number 2505. Both the mustard pot & pepper shaker have an additional number 58 ingrained in the bottom rim. Apparently all Verceram items were limited to production runs of 100 items, indicating that this was the number 58 set out of a series of 100. About Verceram The ceramic workshop of Verceram in Montreuil, France that made this set was a third version of Verceram (after initial companies in the 1920s & 1930s & one between 1940-1955) that started in 1955 & lasted until 1971 in its most legendary shape. After 1971 it was taken over after bankruptcy by Mr Olivier Fourmaintraux but at that moment the company only made ashtrays for one single client, called Denicotea. During the golden Verceram period from 1955-1971, under the management of Mr Boudieu it was Mr Caux who was head of design & production is said to be responsible of the now sought after classic mid century Verceram pieces. Even at the time these were considered avant garde ceramic pieces that caught the attention of famous other designers like Le Corbusier. The shapes were initially inspired by the sea but with time became more & more abstract even close to radical. Nearly all Verceram items were bicolor, often white in combination with another color. They used enamel techniques & mastered the art of creating a mother of pearl gloss & irisé. Where creativity was large, production was small – at its peak the company is said not to have consisted of more than 20 people – & limited to 100 numbered pieces each time & the quality excessively high. For example working in a dust free environment was key essential to achieving the best coatings. Verceram made vases, dishes, lamp bases, plates, ashtrays & practical items like this condiment set.
